ARGOMENTO: Purchase Asics Gel-1090

During July of last year, IAB Studio — the Korean design imprint partially manned by music artist Beenzino — released their very first collaboration with Purchase Asics Gel-1090. Now, a little under a year thereafter, they’ve linked up with the Japanese footwear brand once again for not one but two takes on the GEL-1090. Scheduled for release this month, the pack takes the 1090 silhouette and applies the same palette over top in two distinct arrangements.

The first, which is by far the loudest, uses a neon yellow much more heavily, these tones bled into the mesh, leather, and textile of the top half. The accompanying offering, though undoubtedly different in its inversed coloring, shares a few similarities to the aforementioned: the ASICS logos are finished in the same orange and red hues, the GEL cushioning itself is treated to an identical gradient, and the insoles co-brand in the exact same fashion.

As retailer Above The Clouds embarks on their 10th anniversary, they’re set to celebrate more than a few milestones as they’ve since joined the Asics Gel-1090 Cheap UK family. In commemoration — of both the imprint’s esteemed decade’s length in business as well as the newfound partnership — the two are offering up the first collaborative GEL-1090 since the silhouette’s revival last year.

Designed simple, the pair harks to the Japanese institution’s mindset of “Sound Mind, Sound Body,” drawing overt references to the mantra via text placements at both sides’ tongues. And while these overlays are pronounced by way of contrasting typefaces and ornate detailing, they’re backdrop is relatively understated as grey tones make up both the leather and mesh fabrications behind.

ASICS, aside from a few inline releases, has been relatively quiet since the start of the year. That is soon to change, though, as the brand is about to make a big collaborative comeback with South Korea’s Andersson Bell.
